I've been using sites like stumble upon and digg every time I make a new page on my sites. Often time the new url would appear in Google index in a matter of hours.

Once site I would recommend is socialmarker.com . It has a list of all the tops social sites and a list of dofollow ones too.

Yeah site like and digg surely help site getting indexed faster and are a landmine of traffic.If used properly you can surely get some high SERP.

You could also try your luck by posting URL's in large groups on facebook.
Hoping, of course, that they don't ban you smile.gif

Adding your URL to your Profile Page may/may not get you traffic.

yes social book marking is the good way if you want to Index your URL 

you can BLOG SUBMISSION and after Submiting you can use PING that site so 
your Site will be fast crawl bye Crawler and get indexed fast ....

many sites for PING to crawler for crawl your site like.PINGLER ,PINGOT etc ....

Well Digg, Sumbleupon and many other social sites are doing a great job for web publicity. People are getting a great deal of traffic from such sites.

This is such a good point. People think that social websites can't be used to promote your site, but they are such a good resource to use. Just from twitter I have built my blog and it has become very good.

You can also go for making Squidoo Lenses, this is a easier way to get your site indexed and in a quick time.
